Seed01 | "Apologies to Matt Brown"
Listen: mp3 (3.95 MB)
Assignment: Only working with material (loops and/or extended sections) derived from the
source file, use Acid Pro to arrange a musical variation (including melodic
elements, harmonies, beats) of the original sound sculpture. 3-5 minutes.
Process:
In much the same way I start all of my remixes, I began the process
by listening the original work. More obvious beats were sampled, as
well as other variations. All the samples were then beaten and tortured
with several filters and effects to almost entirely render them unrecognizable
from their original states. I then imported these samples into Acid
and built a soundscape of noise, windshield wipers, alarms, broken windows
and hyper distorted beats. It ended up sounding like a rainy series
of inner city acts of vandalism and car jacking.
Concept:
After the carefully composed sound sculpture of my first track, I somehow
felt compelled to be completely reckless in this next assignment. I
wanted to surprise my audience and create something abrasive and manipulative,
yet still structured and playful. The result, I feel, is successful
in its obnoxious crunches, sirens, gelatinous beats, and false starts,
as well as its strict repetition and high-energy tempo.
