Folder_of_Mystery | "Monster"
Listen: mp3 (3.37 MB)
Assignment: Collaborate on audio game to generate material for class compilation. Reinforce previous skills while exploring possibilities of new processes and concepts. 3-5 minutes.
Process:
I took all of the samples in my Folder of Mystery and transformed them
through different effects in SoundForge in ways that were appropriate
to the different requirements involved (see below). I then imported
the sound clips into Acid and structured them into the required bpm.
Concept:
The list of requirements for this "Folder of mystery" is as
follows:
Color tone: Dark
Mood: Up
Place: In class, bullshitting my final
Motion: Down
Minimum sample length: 1 second
Forbidden sample: guitar
Forbidden effect/process: delay
Required effect/process: Amplitude Modulator
Project bpm: 113
Apparent are several contradictory requisites which made the conception
even more complex and challenging. I rationalized the grouping of the
"Up" mood, "Dark" color tone, and "Down"
motion by creating a twisted, black comedic piece with stomping beats
on the one. Vocals are faded and scratched to create a sort of crude,
brutish half-breed monster/human narrative of romping destruction. The
glue that holds the whole piece together into a cohesive composition
are the rolls of drum-off-beats that twitter about like gnats to a dumb
beast.
